Durometer Explained
Durometer is the international standard for measuring the hardness of rubber, plastic, silicone and other non-metallic materials. These materials are rated on the Shore A Durometer scale.
Below are some examples of common materials with various Shore A durometer readings:
10 Durometer – Chewing Gum
20 Durometer – Rubber Band
30 Durometer – Pencil Eraser
50 Durometer – Tire Tread
BioPlexus Silicone Blocks are available in 10, 20, 30, and 50 Durometer. Block durometer differences are noticeable and are often important to the application.
Our Silicone Sheeting is available in two degrees of firmness. Standard Non-Reinforced and Reinforced Sheeting is 40 Durometer, while our Firm sheeting is 60 Durometer. Firm Sheeting is slightly less flexible than Non-Reinforced and Reinforced Sheeting.
All BioPlexus product hardness ratings have a tolerance of + or – 5 points.
